Cafe Du Congo in Wuppertal

Great place in the Luisenviertel, delicious food and always good for a gin and tonic :)

The Café du Congo has been around since my youth and is at least well over a quarter of a century old. The service is very sympathetic and attentive and I like the menu so much because reading the imaginative, creative dishes arouses a great appetite and the result on the plate is pleasantly different from the everyday offer. I haven't studied the drinks menu very carefully; anyone who offers me a really good wine has already won with me. The latte macchiato alone could be larger for my taste, I am not a fan of delicate latte macchiato glasses. Always with pleasure and for me it is impossible to imagine Wuppertal without it, I would rather do without the suspension railway.

Personnel is already overwhelmed with drinks orders. And the beer prices are simply bold. The equivalent of 6.25 euros for 0.5 liters of beer !? Are you kidding me? In Cologne, the landlord is looked at crookedly if he tries to put a 2 in front of the price for the small Kölsch, why one thinks to be able to add one more in Wuppertal and charge 2.50 remains the secret of the valley residents.

The Luisenviertel cannot be imagined without the Café du Congo. It belongs to the Luisenviertel like holy water for baptism. ? The staff is always friendly, whether there is much or little to do. And when you sit in the Café du Congo, whether outside, like now or inside, you feel as if you are in another city or in another country. You completely forget that you are in Wuppertal. The Luisenviertel has its own charm. I love the Luisenviertel and the Café du Congo. ?

We ate there yesterday and were very unhappy with the service. We ordered bread with aioli as a starter. After half an hour we asked when the bread was coming. The waiter told us that there was a lot going on at the moment and that everyone had ordered at the same time. After another quarter of an hour we got the main course instead. I let her go back because we didn't have the starter yet. Had the waiter apologized and asked if we would still take the main course we would have said nothing. When the main course came later, the dips were missing. When I claimed that there was no excuse. The waiter was only stressed that he had to walk again. When we paid, I would have expected to be apologized for the delays and confusion. But nothing came. All communication from our waitress was very economical. The place was full and there were only two waiters. The counter was not occupied and the waitresses had to put together the drinks themselves. The kitchen was obviously understaffed and overwhelmed. The food was okay and we like the place. However, if we eat for € 50 we also expect good service. This was not the case here. If you run a restaurant you have to make sure that there are enough staff.

To order delicious wines from France also in 0,1l glass, ideal to taste Ambience very cool with alternating music and video art exhibition inside and out Saturday morning oysters morning with fine de Claire from France

Not sure why they call call it that; but "Congo" is what brought me in. People were nice; spirits were off the hook! Can't wait to go back when I have a minute.

Classy cafe with good variety of drinks and food. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Located at historic Louisenviertel in Wuppertal Germany. Friendly service and cool clientele. Trendy music on certain days.

Nice, friendly atmosphere. Very diverse menu. Good wine. Would recommend the Congo Burger with aubergine & goat's cheese. And chanterelle mushrooms with potatoes on the side.

Neat little Café. Fantastic cappuccino.

Lovely cobbled part of town. Brilliant service in English. Tasty pasta and risotto dishes ... the was lots of choice but my German is very limited. Fab trust tab system. About 10 tables inside plus another 5 or 6 outside across the tiny street. The football was also playing one night with about 6 people watching from the small bar. Relaxed atmosphere.

A nice little restaurant, if there is a table free and something on the board that catches you eye, it really is a must visit. Downside is the size and availability of seating.
